Waki and the Mayflower

Its May! Wow 4 months into 2006 and this is just my second post!
OK here we go: Summertime in UP Diliman is not complete without somebody noticing the sunflowers along the University Avenue. They're grown in March to bloom in April and May . They're seasonal plants blooming to its full glory only during the steaming and sweaty summer heat. Whew, I'm perspiring! It's so hot in the Philippines!

Everytime I go to work, the sunflowers' extralarge beauty always captivates my eyes until one day last friday April 28 to be exact, I can't wait any longer...I borrowed Charles' scissors and cut down the stalk with one of the most extralargest flowers around. I brought it home and it really put a sunny smile to everyone at home especially Waki.

By the way, Waki is my super-spirited 5-yr old son. What's news with him? Well, he's taking summer lessons on the 2 R's reading and 'riting. He'll be in prep this June. This is the major news: Just yesterday the first of May, Waki had a major cut or wound near the joint of his right thumb. He was playing with the meterblade (pulgadera?) or whatever its name. You know that measurement device used by carpenters that recoils to its place upon released? That's the thing. 'Yan pasaway kasi' was my immediate verbal reaction. It happened around 5pm. He didnt tell us of the accident, instead he hid his wounded hand inside his shirt and you know what? When I saw him I was thinking of a bigger wound on his chest because the shirt's chest area was bloody red! Oh my! And there I carried him into the house and he cried wailingly...It's good that his grandma was here. She aplied first aid to Waki. Whew! Now at least he knew that there is a price of not listening to me and mommy and any elder person for that matter.

He can't do anything immediately after but to stare at the lone sunflower vased in a Novellino wine. And there I saw him smiling, quiet a feat, after being bombarded with "I told you..."
